Genetics, age, past poor habits, and other factors can all have a dramatic effect on the way your teeth look. You may suffer from severe discoloration, alignment problems, teeth that are too small, or other aesthetic flaws that make you cringe when you smile at yourself in the mirror. You don’t have to live with those imperfections! Porcelain veneers in Frisco may be able to makeover your teeth in just two appointments with an expert cosmetic dentist.

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin pieces of porcelain that your dentist attaches to the fronts of your teeth, thereby disguising flaws and providing you with the brilliant smile you’ve always wanted. You may have just one veneer placed in order to cover a particularly unsightly tooth, or you can opt for a full set of four to eight veneers to totally transform your look. While veneers typically just go on the top teeth, it is also possible to place them on the bottom teeth.

What can veneers fix?

Some of the problems that veneers may be able to correct include:

  • Discoloration due to normal staining, dental fluorosis, age, or genetics
  • Small gaps between the teeth
  • Asymmetrical teeth
  • Cracked and chipped teeth
  • Teeth that are disproportionately small

What is the process like for getting porcelain veneers?

If you would like to discover whether porcelain veneers are right for you, simply schedule a consultation at Thrive Dental and Orthodontics. We’ll examine your teeth to make sure they’re healthy enough to support veneers, and we’ll talk to you about such things as the cost of your cosmetic treatment and whether there are any alternative treatments that may benefit you.

After you decide to commit to veneers, we’ll prepare your teeth by removing a sliver of enamel from them; this is just to make sure that your new tooth covers don’t make your smile look bulky. Then, we’ll take some impressions and photos of your mouth and give you temporary veneers to wear until our trusted laboratory is done creating your custom ones.

When your custom veneers are ready, you’ll return to our office for your second appointment, at which point we’ll attach your gorgeous new look.

How should you care for veneers?

Here are a few tips to help you care for your porcelain veneers:

  • Using a low-abrasive toothpaste, brush your teeth at least twice a day. Also be sure to floss regularly.
  • Enjoy dark beverages, such as coffee and red wine, in moderation. Although veneers are resistant to stains, they can become discolored over time.
  • Don’t bite on anything hard that might break your veneers, such as ice or jawbreaker candy.
  • Visit us for regular checkups.
